Software Developer

LS9, an advanced biofuels company in South San Francisco, is looking for a Software Developer who participates in a dynamic interdisciplinary research and development team. The individual will be a key contributor in the design and maintenance of scientific software and laboratory information systems. The successful candidate must be capable of problems solving with a friendly, customer focused attitude. Teamwork and frequent interaction with molecular biologists, enzymologists, analytical scientists, automation scientists, and IT professionals is required. The candidate will also guide the team in specifying and procuring appropriate scientific software, hardware and auxiliary tools. The candidate will participate actively in project teams and interact with multidisciplinary teams and will be able to work independently as well as in team settings. The individual key responsibilities will include: design robust, scalable workflow driven databases to support strain screening; maintain and improve legacy SQL server database; maintain and improve legacy database GUI frontend application in .NET / C#; write clean, maintainable code using current best practices (source control, unit testing, continuous integration, design patterns, etc.); use RAD methodology to communicate closely with end users and other developers to ensure smooth rollout of all products and features.

Position Requirements:

  • Education requirement: BS, MS (+ 2-5 years experience) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related field.
  • Ability to work in a project and timeline driven environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with .NET (C#, LINQ, EF, SL, WCF)
  • Knowledge of object oriented design and programming
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with a relational database (MSSQL or similar)
  • Experience with MS Team Foundation Server a plus
  • Basic to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007/2010
  • Familiarity with LIMS systems, robotic automation systems such as liquid handlers and plate readers a plus
  • Must be able to critically analyze results and present data and conclusions.
